Finally the moment occurred – having waited more than three decades, West Indies have defeated Pakistan in an ODI, and what a victory it was…they didn’t win…they cruised to victory, Cricket fans across the Caribbean will remember this day for a long time.
Shai Hope Leads the Charge
Batting first, West Indies looked solid from the start. While Brandon King went early, Evin Lewis added a steady 37 before falling to Abrar Ahmed. The innings truly came alive when captain Shai Hope walked in. Calm, confident, and in complete control, he smashed 120 runs off just 94 balls. His innings was full of classy strokes — 10 fours and 5 big sixes.
Roston Chase (36 off 29) and Justin Greaves (43 off 24) provided the perfect finishing touch to get the score to 294/6 in 50 overs. Pakistan’s bowlers had a mixed day – as Abrar Ahmed (2/34) bowled well, and Naseem Shah got 2 wickets, while the other players struggled to contain the runs.
Pakistan’s Nightmare with the Bat
Chasing 295, Pakistan’s innings turned into a disaster almost instantly. Jayden Seales tore through the top order like a storm. Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, Mohammad Rizwan, and Hasan Ali — all gone without scoring. Even Babar Azam could only manage 9 before walking back.
Salman Agha tried to lift the innings by putting on a score of 30 runs and Mohammad Nawaz had 23*(not out), but wasn’t enough support for the team. Pakistan were bowled out for only 92 runs in 29.2 overs – this is their lowest ODI score against West Indies in many decades!
Seales was unstoppable, finishing with unbelievable figures of 6 wickets for just 18 runs. Gudakesh Motie chipped in with 2 wickets, while Roston Chase added one to his name.
